'Lengths' @ Pear

Performance, Goose Fat, OHP projection, Gin, Swimming Pool water, Permanent Marker, Chalk Markers, Photos, Typewritter, Swimming Gogles

During this performance Beaster began to contemplate the distance between her, how this might be swam and the use of nautical miles.

Beaster also worked with the following text, generated whilst swimming, throughout the Performance and payed Actions:

I thought about washing you you washing me,
No lanes
Tonight we swim free

Remembering the horizon,
Alone in the pool
I pull our dingy to the island we rule

Water washes over, dark in weight
Your swimming to me
Tread water I wait

Anti-clockwise synchronise

Reflecting on Beasters thoughts posted on Friday; if the 2 parts of Beaster swam in opposite directions would time stop?
As Beaster's hands part the water, do they pull apart time?

Lengths - Performance

Performance, Action, Goose fat, Bleach, Plymouth Gin

During this durational performance Beaster calculated the amount of calories of goose fat it takes to cover the body; Beaster is now curious as to what to do with this new information.

The payed action was as follows: receive chosen photo and money from audience member, type text generated from swimming lengths over photo, tip cup of bleach over head, have shot of Plymouth gin, return photo to audience. This sequence was performed twice, once with bleach and once with water; Beaster is going to continue this structure of performance using swimming pool water at Pears Thursday 26th March.

1 1/2 of Beaster has just finished an hour training session. She has become fascinated with just focusing on her hands as she swims so as to avoid the heavy pressure of the clock. "Swim anticlockwise" is the quote of the day. Swimming time has now been calculated, so... slower moments, longer time, less pressure, swimming against the clock, swim mining back the clock. Re syncing time with your body clock, listening to the time within, not a race against time rather with time.

Recording Lengths

Beaster has be experimenting with different ways of recording the lengths swam in training. Working with idea of swimming as a meditive process, free writting has been employed, a notebook placed at the end of the pool so thoughts can be written by corresponding length numbers. Beaster has also begun tallying on the surface of the skin with permanent marker. This seems an effective technique, as it allows the mind to flow freely whilst an acurate record is kept.

Swimming Time

This concept was developed through conversation and simultaneous thinking practice.
Time was recalculated into lengths, based on the time taken to swim one length. One 1/2 of Beaster will see how long they can live on swimming time; swimming 1395 lengths bewteen waking and sleeping. The other 1/2 will be coaching via telephone conversation. This dialogue will be continued into further works following this event.

*Note: the swim will be a sponsored swim please contact Beaster to pledge money
